Consultancy on cosmetic products
The European Union makes heavy demands on manufacturers and importers of cosmetics
Cosmetics include, for instance, skin and hair treatment products, toothpaste, soap, deodorants, lipsticks, perfumes, etc.
All cosmetics must be labelled in accordance with the EU directive on cosmetic products and the Danish “Kosmetikbekendtgørelsen” (statutory order on cosmetics issued by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency). This order specifies requirements as to which substances are allowed in cosmetics and in which quantities. It also specifies requirements for preservatives, colorants, UV filters, product durability, etc. Besides, all substances contained in a cosmetic product must be given an INCI name (International Nomenclature of Cosmetics Ingredients).
Upon request by the authorities all who market a cosmetic product must be able to submit a register that describes, for instance, the health risks presented by a specific cosmetic product.
The purpose of all these activities is, of course, to give consumers the opportunity to use safe products and obtain information about the substances contained in a product.
If you intend to market a cosmetic product in Denmark or in any other EU country, we can help you with the following:
- Assess whether the ingredients in the product comply with Danish and EU legislation for cosmetics
- Help prepare and check your product label
- Prepare a technical register
When reviewing the ingredients in your product we will naturally also inform you of any content of problematic substances, i.e. substances that constitute a focus area, trends, new investigations, etc. And we will help you find alternative substances (substitutions).
