Workplace Safety Instructions
In Denmark it is a legal requirement that workplace safety instructions are elaborated for every hazardous substance or chemical that is used in a company – whether it has been purchased in Denmark or abroad
One of the purposes of such workplace safety instructions is that the employees are made aware of the hazards involved in working with the substance/material and especially that they are instructed in precautionary measures to counter risks.
Workplace safety instructions must, therefore, describe the local conditions pertaining to the relevant sub-stance/material as concerns employees’ health and safety, including such matters as handling, protective equip-ment, first aid, fire extinguishing, etc.
The employer is bound to elaborate workplace safety instructions and ensure that the instructions are distributed to and reviewed with the employees. Workplace safety instructions must be elaborated on the basis of information in the material safety data sheet or any technical product data sheet. It can be elaborated in different ways, e.g.:
- As an independent workplace safety instruction for a specific workplace
- As a material safety data sheet that has room in the individual paragraphs for any supplementary information that is of relevance to the actual work situation
- As an appendix that describes circumstances at the company, tacked together with a material safety data sheet
An assessment of the actual circumstances at your company will reveal which model is best suited for you. Eu-rofins can be of assistance in compiling data; updating the latest relevant legislation; individual modifications; and the actual elaboration of workplace safety instructions.
Be aware that Danish regulations on workplace safety instructions are still effective, even though material safety data sheets are subject to EU (REACH) regulations.
Feel free to contact Eurofins if you need consultancy or assistance in elaborating your workplace safety instructions.
