New Regulation on Plastic Materials

A new regulation that amends regulation 10/2011/EC comes into force on December 30th 2011.

The amendment concerns the uptake of a number of new substances in the positive list in Annex I in Regulation 10/2011/EC. Furhtermore a number of substances get new specific migration limits – for instance the specific migration limit for melamine changes from 30 mg/kg to 2,5 mg/kg. A couple of substances will have changed usage, meaning that they can no longer be used as additives but as monomers.

Regulation 1282/2011/EC presents a transition period that allows the industry to adjust the production to the new rules. Thus materials that have been marketed legally before January 1st 2012 can be marketed until January 1st 2013 in order to allow an exhaustion of stock.
